The academic and scientific literature on reducing wildlife populations is in clear agreement that hunting is only a short-term, short-sighted strategy. Every ecosystem has a finite amount of natural resources that determines and sustains the maximum population level of a species. Any temporary reduction in that population will only rebound to its maximum level in a short amount of time.
According to a summary report: "In Texas, which has more deer than any other state, Parks and Wildlife biologist Horace Gore commented: 'You cannot call bowhunting a population control measure, it is a recreational pursuit ... We do not advocate bowhunting when the objective is controlling the population.'"
Only humane sterilization programs have been proven to be long-term strategy to reduce wildlife populations.
